Role Purpose:
Manage the resources (human, material, and infrastructure) of the Chemical Laboratory area to ensure reliable and timely results according to the needs of the Plant, Geology, Refinery, Metallurgy, Exploration, and final product analysis departments. Prepare statistics to measure productivity and downtime. Analyze results to detect deviations that indicate potential process errors, thus ensuring the reliability of the resulting chemical analyses.
Functions:
Analyze and review weekly expense reports for the purchase of reagents and supplies, warehouse stock levels, and direct expenses.
Define and review work procedures, analytical techniques, and work area checklists, and inspect the equipment used in laboratory analyses.
Review daily the work requested by the different departments (Plant, Geology, Refinery) based on sample reception forms and reports. Review and perform a statistical analysis of the results of the analysis and ensure they fall within the tolerance ranges established in the quality control process.
Review and analyze the use of work time and laboratory tasks.
Document and review the procedures for chemical, safety, and/or environmental analyses with laboratory personnel.
Lead environmental and improvement projects in the area (liquid waste recirculation, control of gas emissions into the atmosphere, control of particulate emissions).
Monitor performance, productivity, and cost indicators; report the results of chemical analysis of plant processes (composite materials), review the list of equipment failures in the laboratory area, and review pending tasks.
Provide the necessary resources for quality assurance.
Supervise the maintenance and preventive control of laboratory equipment.
Establish analytical methods and develop methods for new analyses as required, in conjunction with the Metallurgy Manager.
Detect and record nonconformities related to quality, safety, and the environment. Authorize functions and activities of the technical area.
Minimum Required Profile:
Academic: Laboratory Chemist or equivalent Chemist or related field, with training in quality management systems according to NTE – INEN – ISO/IEC 17025:2018 and ISO 19011 standards.
Experience: Ideally, 5 years of verifiable experience in a Mining Testing Laboratory, chemical analysis. Minimum 1 year of experience in quality management systems before assuming responsibilities.
Specific Required Knowledge:
Leco, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, CN Analyzer
Knowledge of mechanical sample preparation
Sampling theory
Classical and instrumental chemical analysis
Atomic absorption and fire assay of minerals and metallurgical products.
Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment maintenance,
Microsoft Office
Knowledge of cost control, warranty, and quality control techniques.
Knowledge of ISO 17025 and ISO 19011 standards
Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC)
